75 year old, abducted, tortured to death.

The 2nd of February 2023, the regime through its Prime Minister, Robina Nabbanja attempted to smuggle into Parliament a statement on the continued abductions, detention incommunicado and other forms of rights violations – against the agreed position that this was to be joint statement; jointly drafted by our team and the government side.

Mathias Mpuuga and his team rejected her schemes and the day’s presiding officer, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa agreed with us and the statement was deferred.

Mpuuga and team had perused through what she had prepared to present to Parliament, unashamedly accounting for only 5 of the 25 names on the list we previously presented to them.

Mpuuga and team then registered another case of extrajudicial killing! 75-year-old Costa Muhonja was picked by the state’s operatives from Kasese on January 5, transferred to Masaka, and when they probably felt that Masaka had too many eyes, transferred him to Sembabule and finally end up at a detention facility at Kireka. For this entire time, they saw no reason for informing his family as why they had arrested him, and where they were keeping him. Kitalo!

After 2 weeks of torture, Mzee Muhonja succumbed to the injuries inflicted on him. His body was dumped at the KCCA mortuary on January 19th. Eight days later, the body was disposed off in the KCCA cemetery.

Mpuuga, LOP delegated all Ministers in the shadow cabinet including Hon Jonathan Odur (Defence), Hon Abdallah Kiwanuka (Internal Affairs) and Hon Atkins Katusabe (Public Service) to address the press and make our position very clear to the country. #AccountabilityAndService #EndTorturesInUganda
