The National Unity Platform party president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine heaped praises on fallen lawyer Anthony Wameli whom he described as a selfless, compassionate and committed individual who spent a huge portion of his life serving the public.

Wameli, 45, was buried Sunday at his ancestral home in Namisindwa district, Eastern Uganda.

His burial convened a delegation of leaders from all divides of the opposition. Almost the entirety of the opposition party leadership descended on the playground to bid farewell to the reputed lawyer.

Speaking at the funeral service, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) described the deceased as a personal friend, a selfless and fearless leader and Lawyer.

“The last time I was hear, we received lots of gifts including a car, which you gave to us because of Counsel Wameli. Now we are back here to send off our friend and leader, who has left us before he even turned 45,” he said.

Bobi also spoke about how Wameli always stood out to defend the condemned high profile individuals in society especially murder suspects, and ADF rebel leader Jamil Mukulu.

“When they arrested Mukulu, his fellow Muslims and even his own family members like myself went silent. But Wameli Went and visited him in Prison and talked to him because he knew that he was innocent until proven guilty.”

This, Bobi Wine said was the reason Wameli was last year recognized as the best human rights lawyer in Uganda by the Uganda Law Society.
