Bobi speaks out on salary delays for Army
National Unity Platform party president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine has slammed government for failing to make timely financial commitments to the armed forces.
Bobi’s concerns come after press reports indicated that a Parliamentary meeting between the Internal Affairs Ministry and the Budget committee revealed that the soldiers had gone up to three months without getting salary.
This, Bobi says is the genesis of the frustrations of these individuals who end up meting terror on the ordinary citizens.
“You can imagine! As soldiers and police officers go without pay for months, Museveni and his cronies continue to steal and plunder the resources of our nation with impunity. And yet, these are the same people they send to beat and torture citizens so as to keep them in power!, Bobi said in a social media statement.
“They would rather spend billions on lavish parties, purchasing tools of repression and buying off people, than pay our teachers, health workers and these men and women in uniform! Until WE ALL UNITE AND REALISE THAT WE ARE TOTALLY ON OUR OWN, this humiliation will continue!,” he added.
It should be recalled that in his manifesto, Bobi pledged to address the salary concerns of the armed forces, pledging to pay a minimum of UGX 1m to the least ranking personnel
