President Bobi Wine has in a social media statement heaped praises on the Rwenzururu cultural leader Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere who on Tuesday was relieved of a cocktail of charges imposed on him by the NRM government.

The Omusinga has been grappling with a seven year indictment till the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions dropped the plethora of charges on him and his 218 royal guards.

In a statement, Bobi declared the Omusinga a living hero who has valiantly stood his ground despite the threats and persecution associated with his trial.

Full Bobi Wine statement;

I join all justice-loving Ugandans in congratulating you Your Majesty Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma I upon regaining your freedom after 7 agonising years under regime captivity.

Since it desecrated your Kingdom, massacred your subjects, and then stripped you of all dignity as they arrested you, the regime has attempted to portray you as a terrorist. However, we want you to know that in our eyes, you remain a hero.

You remain a hero for standing up so valiantly, shoulder to shoulder with your subjects to resist the oppression that they had endured for decades under dictator Museveni’s regime. The regime gave you a chance to sneak out of the palace but you chose to stand by your people even in the face of death.

The countless innocent lives, including young children and their toys, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and grandparents, who were bombed and shot to death inside your palace and throughout Kasese between 26 and 27 November 2016 during a military operation led by Mr. Peter Elwelu deserve justice.

The surviving women and men who were stripped naked, their hands tied behind their backs, and then executed in cold blood in the aftermath of that November raid deserve justice.

The hundreds of your surviving people whom the regime subjected to horrendous torture in detention, presented in court with festering wounds, and forced to answer for crimes that only Elwelu, Museveni, and their fellow terrorists should be accountable for, deserve justice.

Both you and the people of Rwenzururu Kingdom deserve justice for the unimaginable horror you suffered in November 2016. You and your people deserve justice for the seven years-and-counting that you have lived with a pain and grief that will simply never go away.

You deserve justice for being denied the opportunity to bury your beloved mother, who passed away while you were under unjust house arrest. So do your subjects whose efforts to locate the bodies of their slain relatives have been frustrated since 2016. The souls resting in known and unknown mass graves throughout Rwenzururu Kingdom as a result of the November 2016 massacre deserve justice.

Only when you and your people receive the justice you deserve will you truly be free. Though I do not know the date or time, I am certain that the scales of justice will ultimately tip in your favor, and those responsible for the torment and terror you endured will face the consequences they deserve. May you live long enough to witness that day. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisoners #BringBackOurPeople #WeAreRemovingaDictator
