The National Unity Platform party principal Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine yesterday at a rally called upon locals of Serere to cast their mandate on the Alliance for National Transformation party candidate Alice Alaso ahead of the Thursday polls.

Bobi told a swarm of energetic opposition supporters that Alaso is a credible and trusted leader having legislated for the same area for a period close to 15 years as a member of parliament.

He also urged the opposition leaders to embrace unity despite the political diversity along party lines. Bobi made it clear that a ‘united opposition is a formidable one’ while a ‘divided opposition is an easier one to break.’

Wine’s message was seemingly aimed at the Forum for Democratic Change party faction headed by Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat who have turned into saboteurs as they prefer NRM’s Philip Oucor to win the race other than their arch nemesis Alice Alaso from ANT who they fault for their poor performance in Teso region. Alaso is part of the group that defected alongside Gen. Mugisha Muntu to form their own ANT party. They attribute their exodus to the party ideology of defiance which they claim had outlived its relevance.

The polls slated for February 23, Thursday have attracted a 5 member participation from two independent candidates who include Emmanuel Omoding (independent), Emmanuel Eratu (FDC), Alice Alaso (ANT), Philip Oucor and Martin Onguruco (independent)

Meanwhile today is the final day for the wrap up of open air campaigns. President Museveni is expected in the area hence the heavy deployment of troops from the intelligence, SFC, UPDF, police and prisons service.
