Recently released National Unity Platform party supporter Mr. Anthony Agaba alias Bobi Young has recounted the tough times he prevailed through from the time of his eventual abduction in Maya, Wakiso district as he returned from a concert in Mbarara.

Bobi Young was part of the security detail of singer Hajara Namukwaya famed for her stage name Spice Diana when they were intercepted by heavily armed callous looking men who drove off with him in their custody at gun point.

Young, was first held incommunicado at CMI cells in Mbuya before being produced at the Makindye General Court Martial after a social media outburst. He was charged with spreading harmful propaganda against the army and government.

He denied the charges and has been on remand since January 2023. In our exclusive interview with him, he recounts the horrific times he prevailed through when he was driven to CMI headquarters in Mbuya.

According to Bobi Young, there are so many young people being held incommunicado at the CMI cells.

He recounts meeting youths who have been in detention since 2020 when they were abducted in the aftermath of the November 2020 protests.

He says majority have lost their mind and are unable to reconcile their mental faculties due to the harsh conditions they are subjected to while in the cells of CMI.

He adds that they are denied food and whipped with sticks and barbed wire as a coercive means to retrieve information from them.

The NUP activist was granted a UGX 1m cash bail yesterday on ill health grounds raised by his lawyers.

He was welcomed by the NUP president Bobi Wine who even condemned his detention.

“Welcome back comrade Bobi Young. While we are glad that you now have some temporary freedom, we know that you did not commit any crime to take away from you close to four months of your life. I am grateful to all our leaders, lawyers and other comrades who played different roles to push for your freedom. We continue to demand for the freedom of so many other comrades who are rotting away in different jails for simply supporting NUP,” Bobi wrote
