A group of boda boda riders have taken to the streets in a powerful and impassioned protest against the proposed new taxes. With their motorcycles blocking a section of 8th street in Industrial area, Kampala, the riders are making a bold statement about the challenges they face on a daily basis.

For these hardworking individuals, the list of demands from authorities is long and ever-growing. From permits and helmets to PSV and even bribes, the riders feel they are being squeezed from all sides. And now, with the introduction of new taxes, they have had enough.

Their message is clear: the current regulatory framework is not working, and the authorities need to take a long, hard look at the impact of their policies on the lives and livelihoods of those who depend on the boda boda industry which is actually a bigger percentage of Ugandans in the labor market

To me this protest is simply a wake-up call for all those who, including organizations that care about the rights of workers and the need for fair and just policies. The boda boda riders are not just fighting for themselves, but for all those who struggle to make ends meet in this our country that has stacked against them for the past three decades under dictator museveni’s autocracy.

It is time for all Ugandans to have it on their mind that nothing can change under this M7 government, until we work together to depose him and Only then can together build a society that truly values the contributions of all its citizens.#Jbmuwonge
