Body of lawyer Wameli to be flown in tomorrow
The body of deceased National Unity Platform party lead lawyer Anthony Wameli will be flown back to the country tomorrow Friday March 3 according to Communication from relatives.
The development has been confimed by his workmate Counsel Abdul Ssekindi from the Wameli & Co. Advocates.
The lawyer was confirmed dead on February 8, 2023 after braving 2 years of a cancer diagnosis.
At the time of his death, the NUP frontline lawyer was at the Boston medical centre, USA where he had been undergoing cancer treatment since his admission in 2021.
Wameli was named the Uganda Law Society criminal defence lawyer of the year 2021. He was also a staunch believer in the Born Again faith as he served as a pastor at Ebenezer Christian Fellowship in Kanyanya. In his career, he featured as defense lawyer for the Kaweesi murder suspects, represented ADF rebel leader Jamil Mukulu, and former presidential candidates John Patrick Amama Mbabazi and Henry Tumukunde.
