The National Unity Platform party supporters who were earlier in January brutalized by police have finally been granted court bail after a full month in custody of Kirinya prison.

The presiding court judge agreed with the concerns raised by the counsel for the accused who asserted that his clients appeared weak and needed urgent medical attention.

Amongst those released includes 65 year old Frank largely known as Taata Bobi. The senior citizen was pounced on and thumped during the arrest.

Police said they were compelled to use force to disperse the January 21st gathering at YMCA Jinja after being tipped that the attendants planned to make a political rally. On the same day, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba was in the Eastern Uganda mobilizing for his presidential campaign.

The detainees however said their gathering was about prayers they had arranged to honor the fallen citizens who have died in the course of the struggle. They also stressed that they were to pray for all political prisoners languishing in detention.
