Kabaka birthday run attracts 100,000 participants
The 10th edition of the Kabaka birthday run has been rated as the most successful ever staged in Uganda, after over 100,000 tickets were sold off to the loyalists who graced the call of His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
The sponsors of the event say they collected UGX 2b in taxes after 100,000 people bought the tickets with each rated UGX 20,000.
The run is annually held as a gesture that Buganda Kingdom is spiritually committed to fighting the HIV endemic that continues to silently ravage the world.
The Kabaka just marked his 68th birthday, and he showed up alongside the Queen Mother Sylvia Nagginda as the chief runners. The whole royal family was fully present.
Yesterday’s marathon eclipsed the 52,812 New York Marathon which was the current record for a marathon.
