Kampala woman Member of Parliament also National Unity Platform party lawyer Shamim Malende has touched base at Entebbe, 3 months since she left the country following a strange ailment that struck her down.

Malende returned today in better health compared to when she left last year. She had been discharged from Rubaga hospital to Aga Khan where she has been receiving treatment as an outpatient.

Malende was received at Entebbe International Airport by a team of party members and supporters.

Being wheeled in a chair, the lawyer told reporters that she was still feeling weak, but mentally strong to carry on her legal duties for the party.

“I still have medical reviews in Nairobi because I am still on medication,” she said.

“I was going back to hospital every two days, but when the doctors determined that I could go back after a month, I decided to come home and do some work.”

Malende was rushed to Nairobi’s Agha Khan Hospital in late November last year from Rubaga Hospital.

She underwent several emergency abdominal surgeries, as it was reported at the time that the lawyer was feared to have “ingested a strange chemical”

Earlier on November 13th, she had been admitted at the Uganda Martyrs hospital in Lubaga after she reportedly suffered a seizure while at her Kawempe residence.

In her brief address today, Malende thanked the NUP leadership led by its President Bobi Wine for visiting her in hospital and providing her with security and a care taker.

“For now I am focused on returning to render my services to the people as a lawyer; to help those who are helpless for free,” she said.

“I am hurt our foot soldiers are still getting arrested with no help; some people were celebrating that our (Head of Legal) Wameli is dead, and I am bed ridden, but I can assure you that I am back and ready to start from where I left.”
