The arrest of Minister for Karamoja Affairs also Manafwa district woman Member of Parliament Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu has sent shock waves down the spines of top government officials who are said to be beneficiaries of the Karamoja iron sheets diversion.

The embattled Minister is said to be detained in the coolers of Kiira Road Police station following her refusal to make a statement while appearing before the Presidential Affairs committee of Parliament on Tuesday. She was surrendered to the Parliament police which handed her over to the Criminal Investigations Department of Police for interrogation.

On Wednesday, the Office of the DPP confirmed in a tweet statement that they had sanctioned charges of corruption and conspiracy to commit a felony against Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu Kimono for allegedly diverting iron sheets meant for the Karamoja vulnerable community.

“The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo has consented to the charges. The Police have been directed to produce the Minister in court for plea tomorrow (April 6),” the ODPP tweeted Wednesday.

Sources now indicate that several Ministers who benefited from the scheme are already gripped by fear with some anticipating that they may be prosecuted just like Minister Kituttu. The list of beneficiaries includes the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Vice President Jessica Alupo, speaker Anita Among, and several others.
