MP Bwanika slams NUP over constitutional reforms
The Kimanya Kabonera lawmaker Abed Bwanika has no kind words for the National Unity Platform party Secretariat which he claims to be dictatorial following the adoption of the two term limits on all elected leaders.
Speaking on CBS FM last Saturday, an infuriated Bwanika said the party would not grow and develop when leaders are forced into retirement even when they can still serve.
Bwanika opines that the party is suppressing and discouraging seniority and experienced leadership. He says the reforms themselves breach the national constitution of the republic of Uganda.
Bwanika also argues that he was not consulted as a senior member of the Party prior to the adoption of the reforms. He reiterates that the party is on the verge of destruction as senior leaders like himself, Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona and Mathias Mpuuga are likely to reach out to the exit route and find safer havens for their political career.
The NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi however says Bwanika and his clique are senior party leaders who have persistently shunned party activities. He wonders how they claim that they weren’t consulted yet they have never laid foot at the party headquarters since their election as legislators.
The Leader of Opposition Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba also yesterday criticized the reforms stating that they are likely to cost the party in terms of experience and seniority.
