While appearing on the airwaves of the Mengo based CBS radio last night, the Leader of Opposition Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba took a swipe at some NUP leaders he accused with peddling unverified information without verifying its authenticity.

The LOP who sounded serious pledged to step down from his position and his legislative seat if substantial evidence is adduced to back allegations that he held talks with President Museveni at state house that would later culminate into the release of lawmakers Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya.

“I will do what has never been done in history. I will resign from my duties as LOP and also as an MP if anyone out there can prove that I negotiated with President Museveni. You see, some people have mastered the art of talking any how for as long as they have the microphone. Who shall we listen to if everyone thinks they can talk anything and get away with it?,” LOP asked. “Some leaders deserve to be led. They cannot lead. If you think nobody will bring you to scrutiny then you are in the wrong place in leadership. We are not on a malwa pot. We are an organized party. Let’s talk responsibly. What is disturbing some leaders in our party is that excitement for media,” he added.

The LOP who remains battling with allegations of negotiations with Museveni remains undettered and consistent with his stand that nothing in that regard ever occured.

“How can anyone sit down and negotiate for their natural rights? Our stand as NUP is well known. We cannot sit and negotiate with the oppressor, never,” he added.

It should be noted that the LOP Mpuuga through his lawyers of Lukwago and Co. Advocates filed a suit against Daily Monitor publications seeking UGX 200m compensation over a story titled “How MPs got Freedom” in which allegations were made that he led a team of MPs to negotiate with Museveni at state house.

The same allegations were purveyed by the NUP Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro while appearing on Pearl FM radio a fortnight back.
