At the Kakyeka stadium held 42nd Tarehe Sita celebrations marked in Mbarara yesterday in commemoration of the first offensive mission by the National Resistance Army, president Yoweri Museveni left everyone’s eyebrows raised after committing a move reminiscent of the past ruler Idi Amin Dada.

The self acclaimed life president in the 1970’s developed an insatiable lust for power and declared himself a ‘field marshal’, which is the army’s highest rank any soldier can attain. On top of that, Idi Amin declared himself the ruler for life and the conqueror of the British empire.

Relatedly, almost more than 4 decades later, the incumbent president Museveni reminisced a similar scenario after awarding himself the Katonga Medal. He was decorated by his Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo. The Katonga star medal is the highest military decoration in the Uganda army honours system. It is awarded to a complete soldier who has made tremendous impact on the army of Uganda.
