In what appeared to be a move influenced by Western Donor pressure with most world powers threatening withdrawal of aid, Gen. Yoweri Museveni has backed off assenting to the anti-homosexuality Bill which was recently passed by Parliament.

At an NRM MPs caucas meeting today at State House Entebbe, Museveni made it clear that he would not assent to the Bill citing serious economic reprisals that may devastate the already ailing Ugandan economy.

After his Keynote address, Museveni and Members of parliament resolved in unison that the bill is sent back to parliament for improvement.

Museveni has been under intense pressure not to sign this bill into law as his western donors said it would be a bad law that will infringe on the rights of Ugandans and also water down efforts of fighting HIV/AIDs in Uganda.
