A plain clothed paramilitary operative was yesterday spotted at the Uganda Human Rights Commission offices preying on a team of activists that had showed up to deliver a petition demanding the resignation of Ms. Mariam Wangadya from the office of the chairperson.

According to information shared to our source, the paramilitary operative is known as Kamusiime Alex, a civilian born in Ntungamo. He is said not to be a formally enrolled policeman but he is surprisingly armed with a pistol and draws a salary from the police institution.

“He is an informant who piles reports for the CID. His role is to spy on opposition activists and ensure they are arrested in case of protests,” said our source at CPS. “He has been working with us for the past 6 years. I heard he some times participates in drone operations,” the source added.

Meanwhile contrary to the outcry of the Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka who warned security officials that his office would not offer litigation to them in case of legal suits, yesterday Field Force Unit officers were filmed ganging up on a disabled protester. They were seen violently undressing him as they carried him to the waiting pick up patrol truck. They meted terror with impunity well knowing they are immune from scrutiny, a gesture that government perhaps condones human rights violations. Sadly, all this took place right in front of the UHRC offices and the same body has maintained its quiet on the matter.
