NUP activist Sserunkuuma abducted, dropped at CPS

John Bosco Sserunkuuma, a councillor for Nansana West B was on Wednesday night abducted from his residence by men brandishing guns according to eye witness accounts.

The political activist leads a Uganda Torture Survivors Movement which brings together victims of police brutality and also advocates for justice for the repressed.

Sserunkuuma, a former abductee himself has been very vocal on matters of bad governance, and as NUP member, he has been very critical towards the nepotic tendencies and gross rights abuses by the regime police.

His latest arrest according to security sources is affiliated to the looming May 8th economic shutdown where Uganda opposition supporters are anticipated to take to the streets to denounce corruption, high costs of living and the raging brutality by armed forces.

Sserunkuuma is according to the NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya in dire state in the cold mosquito infested dungeons of CPS in Kampala.

“We have spent most of the day trying to secure the release of comrade John Bosco Sserunkuma, who was violently arrested last night in Nansana, severely beaten, and taken into cells at CPS. Unfortunately, he is spending another night in cells despite going through incredible pain. When we saw him earlier, he could not stand up or sit down without support. Some parts of his body are swollen, and he needs urgent medical attention. Our legal team will be doing everything possible to try and secure his freedom,” Rubongoya writes.
