Burial preparations are underway in Namisindwa district, the ancestral home of fallen National Unity Platform party lawyer Anthony Wameli.

The 45 year old human rights lawyer is to be honored with a befitting send off that will convene delegations of local Bugisu region leaders, politicians, religious leaders and a delegation from the NUP party headed by President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine.

Wameli’s body which arrived in the country on Friday was received by A plus funeral services.

The mood in Namisindwa is sombre with locals clearly expressing grief, pain and sorrow.

“In Wameli, we have lost much as the people of Bugisu. He has been selfless, God fearing and constructive. He may be one of the pronounced vocal lawyers we have had at the national arena,” Masaba Patrick, a local in Namisindwa said. “The gap he has left is huge. We don’t know if a person in his shoes will show up in our Bugisu region. We were ready to send him to the twelfth parliament,” he added.

Wameli will be honored with a joint prayer presided by the local religious leader. He is to be laid to rest at 16:00hrs today. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
