The released National Unity Platform party lawmakers Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya who were Monday granted a UGX 20m cash bail by Masaka High Court are safely home, family sources say.

The Lord Mayor also made a similar assertion this morning while appearing on the NBS Morning Breeze. He said he spoke to the wife of Makindye West MP Ssewanyana and she confirmed he was safely dropped home.

“I spoke to the wife of Hon. Ssewanyana this morning. She drove to Masulita and she confirmed that the Hon. Allan was there and arrangements are being made to take him to a health facility to get treatment,” Lukwago said. “We had someone whisper to us that the Hon. Allan Ssewanyana would have been dropped at Masulita at his granny’s place and Hon. Ssegirinya at his mother’s place in Mengo,” he added.

The terms of the bail of the NUP MPs are unclear though what is so far known is that their travel documents like passports were deposited to the court in a bid to rule out the possibility of them fleeing to exile under the guise of pursuing medical treatment as anticipated by court. The state prosecutor Richard Birivumbuka yesterday suggested the confiscation of the lawmakers’ passports and urged court to impose a heavy bail fee amounting to UGX 20m to compel the legislators to return to court whenever needed.

It is now close to 24 hours since the MPs were granted bail. They have not yet made any media appearances since their return to their respective constituencies.
