NUP pays tribute to murdered ‘foot soldier’

The November 2020 riots will always be remembered for the fresh wounds they afflicted on dozens of families.

A government issued report put the death toll at 54 and a compensation pledge was made, but to-date no single family has ever smiled to the bank even after Mr. Museveni sat on television and made promises that families of the affected especially those that were not ‘rioting’ would be given money to make some settlements.

Three years down the road, the family of Mr. Mukwaya Edward, a mechanic murdered at Kisekka market, remains in despair with no ounce of hope for any justice.

NUP leaders utilized the weekend to reach out to the aggrieved relatives of Mukwaya.

A tribute penned down by the NUP head if arts and entertainment Mr. Buken Ali brings to light the tone and mood of the relatives of Mr. Mukwaya.

On 18th November, 2020 our comrade Mukwaya Edward was shot dead by the military from Kyengera. As he lay down in a pool of blood before breathing his last, he put up the #PeoplePower fist, and died shortly after.

He was only 20 years of age; a mechanic who passionately believed in change. Today, we paid a visit to his home in Namulanda, Wakiso District. We checked on his father, siblings and his only daughter Nangoba Margaret currently aged five. It was very painful listening to how Edward’s extrajudicial killing has affected the family.

Very grateful to the comrades under their umbrella #TeamKyagulanyiPlatform who looked for this family until they found them, and led the efforts to pay them a visit.

May Edward’s soul continue resting in peace, and may God grant that one day, he gets justice.
