The Nabweru Chief Magistrates Court will today hear the bail application of the jailed NUP party supporters who were arrested on May 8th in a joint military operation last month.

At least 11 of them remain in custody of authorities as the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence-CMI claims they were found to be in possession of bomb-making materials.

Their lead counsel Shamim Malende says they are optimistic that court will grant bail to the charged suspects today.

“Looking at the charges trumped on them, I am super confident that court will grant them bail,” she said. “The charges hold no merit at all. It is very unfortunate that the regime continues to persecute young people on petty grounds,” she added.

It should be recalled that Muyoodi Hamid, one of the suspects was fatally wounded when one of the arresting officers discharged a bullet that went through his thigh and left him in grave pain. Police did not bring that particular errant officer to book.
