Opposition to boycott Dictator Museveni’s address

The dissident lawmakers in the eleventh parliament have announced a boycott of today’s State of the Nation address where dictator Yoweri Museveni is expected to execute his constitutional mandate to update the public on how far his government has gone.

The address comes in the ugly face of institutionalized corruption, rampant poverty, gun violence and mass unemployment within Uganda.

Opposition MPs say they cannot be party to the ritualistic address where the dictator spends hours heaping praises on his failed regime and reciting decades old speeches.

NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi says he will personally not subject himself to humiliation by the SFC troops who usually give legislators a terrible time prior to the address.

“These people want to prick our noses in the name of testing COVID-19. On top of that, they confiscate our communication gadgets and then transport us in buses like school children. For heaven’s sake, we are lawmakers. Why should we be humiliated by Museveni’s boys,” Ssenyonyi wonders. “Besides, he is going to recite the same address he conveyed five years. I don’t expect anything new that’s why I cannot attend such,” he added.

Other lawmakers like Kyandondo East MP Muwadda Nkunyingi also resolved not to attend the State of the Nation Address citing related reasons.

The Leader of Opposition Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba made it clear that as always, his office will not be party to the State of the Nation Address as long as the regime still disregards constitutionalism and rule of law as scored of youths continue to languish in prison for political reasons.
