Police Brutality Leaves Ugandan Journalist at Risk of Permanent Blindness

The Police at Makerere With the assistance of Wadegeya Police, Journalists from NTV and Next media among others who were covering the Medical students’ press conference, protesting against the Ministry of Health -Uganda’s failure to deploy them for internships, were met with brute force, reckless beatings, and pepper spray, as the police failed to do their job.

Of course we are not witnessing this for the first time but It’s unfortunate that those who are supposed to uphold the law and protect citizens instead resorted to abusing their power and brutally assaulting innocent individuals. The journalists in this context were merely doing their job, bringing attention to the plight of medical students, and yet they were subjected to such inhumane acts of cruelty. We need to put and end to this madness, no no this is too much.

The video footage of this appalling incident is difficult to watch, as police officers not only used excessive force but also directly pepper sprayed into the eyes against defenseless journalists. It’s an a horrific display of police brutality and a shameful act against the freedom of the press.
