Police raid home of key Odinga ally
A police operation is underway at the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in Karen, Nairobi.
Citizen Digital has established that the operation is being conducted by a contingent of police officers drawn from different police units who have arrived at the home in at least six vehicles.
The motive of the raid still remains unclear.
The raid at Matiang’i’s home comes hours after the court earlier in the day declined to grant the Directorate of Criminal Investigations orders to access CCTV footage of the former Cabinet Secretary’s Karen residence.
Through an application dated February 10, the DCI had asked the court to direct the manager of Amsec Security Services, which mans Dr Matiangi’s home, to hand over security footage for the period between 6 am, February 8 and 11 pm, February 9.
This is in light of the police raid purported to have taken place on the former Interior CS’s home on the night of February 9 which the DCI dismissed as a “well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear.”.
In the application before the magistrate court in Nairobi, the DCI said they are investigating a case of alleged attempted Robbery contrary to section 297 of the Penal Code.
However, the orders sought were not granted, with the magistrate ordering that the matter be mentioned on March 7.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Dr. Matiang’i’s lawyer Danstan Omari says the police officers sneaked into the home. According to Omari, the former CS was not at the home at the time of the raid
