Police violently arrest medical interns
Police from Wandegeya division and CPS have spent the greatest share of Monday morning in running battles with a section of medical interns who were planning to march to the office of the President and later parliament in demand for deployment.
The interns armed with placards were chanting #DeployMedicalInterns at a time when celebrated academician, cartoonist and satirist Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo has launched the #ugandahealthexhibition to project the rot in the Ministry of Health and Ugandan health sector.
This publication understands that the arrested medical interns are being detained at CPS in Kampala.
The interns are seeking better payment and deployment to under staffed government hospitals country-wide. Government has been hesitant to respond to their cries hence their decision to protest.
Amongst the arrested include Dr. Gilbert Busingye, Dr. Judith Nalukwago, Dr. Shamim Nambassa, a former Makerere University guild president.
