The Speaker of Parliament of Uganda Hon Anita Annet Among has today while at the special service prayers in remembrance of her predecessor, the late Jacob Oulanyah at Parliament said that she received a number of calls from foreign politicians prior to the passing of the anti homosexuality bill threatening on how they will cut aid for HIV/AIDS plus other fundings if parliament didnot restrain from passing the bill.

Among said she was forced to switch off her phone to avoid what she termed as intimidating calls.

“For your information I got a lot of threats. I was intimidated. We are going to lose out drugs of AIDs, aid is going to be cut off. Tourism, trade, export [is going to be cut] I said so what?” She said.

The bill which was passed yesterday has continued to draw international criticism with the West contemplating to suspend aid to Uganda.

“We would have to take a look at whether or not there might be repercussions that we would have to take, perhaps in an economic way, should Uganda’s anti-homosexuality bill get passed and enacted,” stated Mr. John Kirby, the UN security council chief.

However, the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Hon. Norbert Mao has disputed claims that Uganda is generally homophobic as depicted by Western press.
