The Museveni regime in Uganda has been perpetrating a series of human rights violations and atrocities against its own citizens, particularly young women who are members or supporters of the opposition. The recent abduction and harassment of Swaburah, a prominent leader of the NUP online media team, is a glaring example of the regime’s disregard for human life and dignity.

It is appalling to learn that Swaburah, who was simply exercising her democratic right to free speech and expression, has been abducted by the Museveni regime. This is not an isolated case, as we have seen in the past with the abduction of Namboozo Shakirah and her 4-month-old baby, as well as the detention of Olivia Lutaaya for three years, simply for supporting the opposition. These acts are a direct violation of the fundamental human rights of these women and their families.

What is even more distressing is the fact that this regime is being supported by international organizations such as the World Bank, IMF, and Western governments. It is a tragedy that the resources and ammunition used to terrorize, harass, and abduct women are being sponsored by these entities. This is a clear indication of the lack of regard for human rights and the principles of democracy by these organizations.

We need to take action and demand that the Museveni regime put an end to these heinous acts of aggression against women. Women’s rights groups must confront this crisis and bring it to the attention of the international community. The abduction and harassment of women in Uganda must stop, and the perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions.

It is time to stand in solidarity with the brave women of Uganda who are fighting for their rights and their freedom. We must not remain silent in the face of such blatant injustice. Let us call for an end to the Museveni regime’s tyranny and demand that the international community withdraw its support for this reprehensible regime. The time for action is now.
