The recently released National Unity Platform party lawmaker for Makindye West Hon. Allan Ssewanyana is at an indisclosed city hospital where he is receiving treatment according to family sources.

His lawyer Erias Lukwago says efforts are underway to have his passport retrieved from court so he can be cleared to travel abroad for medical attention.

“We will engage court to see if the lawmaker can have his passport released so we can arrange for his medication abroad,” Lukwago told journalists today.

The lawmaker Ssewanyana and his co-accused Muhammad Ssegirinya acquired a UGX 20m cash bail for each of them. The high court judge Lawrence Tweyanze obliged to a prayer by the state prosecutor Richard Birivumbuka who asked for the passports to be confiscated.

Meanwhile, MP Ssegirinya has according to reports ‘asked for privacy’ in the meantime as he is not yet fully in order to address media.

The storm in the National Unity Platform remains unsettled with infights prevailing as some members are clashing with the Leader of Opposition Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga who they believe ‘betrayed’ the party by engaging in backdoor negotiations.
