The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has finally handed over the body of Private Wilson Sabiiti, the bodyguard responsible for the tragic shooting of State Minister of Labour Col. Charles Engola on May 2. Sabiiti subsequently took his own life moments after the incident.

Since then, the UPDF had retained Sabiiti’s body, citing the need to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances and motives surrounding his actions.

On Monday, the body was officially released to Sabiiti’s family in Kabarole district, culminating a 21-day period of waiting and uncertainty.

Burial arrangements for Pte Wilson Sabiiti are underway at his ancestral home in Mubali Village, Kijura Town Council in Kabarole District- after his body was finally delivered at 5:00am Tuesday by UPDF. Sabiiti killed himself shortly after he gunned down his principal, former State Minister for Labour, Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola, on May 2.
