VIDEO: NUP Head of Mobilization beaten by police in Kyenjojo
There was terror on Thursday as police in Kyenjojo district swung into action to disperse a gathering organized by the opposition National Unity Platform party leaders under their ‘Kunga’ mobilization drive.
The NUP party has in the recent days embarked on a nationwide mobilization tour in a bid to generate for itself converts as the party braces for the 2026 general elections.
On Wednesday this week, NUP leaders were barred from mobilizing in Mbarara district but they went on to secretly hold their meetings at a concealed place that police only learnt about when the party leaders had left already.
However, on Thursday in Tooro region in Kyenjojo district, the DPC Mugizi Felix deployed his troops upon learning that a delegation from Kamwokya led by the NUP party secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya and the mobilization chief Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu were to host and address gathering.
It is reported that the DPC ordered the violent battering of attendants after NUP leaders declined to pay him a UGX 30,000 bribe.
NUP Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro is overheard in a video clip ashaming the DPC Mr. Felix Mugizi. “You are doing all this horror just because of a UGX 30,000 bribe rejection. Shame on you Mr. DPC,” Mufumbiro is heard shouting.
Police then zeroed on Nyanzi Ssentamu whom they humiliatingly beat up till he lies unconscious. Rubber bullets, teargas and live bullets are seen being fired as police battles with NUP supporters shielding the arrest of Nyanzi. He blacks out and is rushed to police where he is charged and later granted police bond. One NUP supporter is hit by a rubber bullet on the leg.
Police has as of now maintained silence on the terror by its forces in Kyenjojo district.
